museum of modern arab art by rafael vinoly

this could have obviously gone on the architecture page but architecturally it's not necessarily groundbreaking. i think its true accomplishment lies in the design. obviously it's designed to blend with the dunes, and you can see how from that first angle it almost looks identical to the landscape. rafael vinoly are based in new york, but these plans were revealed in doha, qatar. the museum will ambitiously house over 10,000 articles from the collection of sheikh hassan bin mohammed al-thani. ranging from abstracts to the earliest qur'anic manuscripts, the museum also plans to be an inspirational platform for contemporary arab artists. 33,000 sq ft. due to be complete in 2011. loves it.
